Today is Boxing Day and
I am sure most of you are expecting gifts from friends and family. Most of the
time
, we expect people to give us gifts that we need most that we forget the
real meaning of gifts.
When getting someone a
gift it is important to put some thought into it. Do not get something just
because you have to buy a gift. Gifts are supposed to be treasured and you can
only treasure something that is carefully picked.
This does not mean that
I am allowing you not to appreciate what you are given. Some people put a lot of
thought and effort in finding gifts but at times they fail to meet our
standards. If this happens just take the gift show some appreciation and remember
that, it is the thought that counts.
One of the best
examples of gift selection is found in the story of baby Jesus. When Jesus was
born, the wise men took to Him gold, frankincense and myrrh, (Matthew 2:11). One
would ask why they took to Him such expensive gifts or what benefits were the
gifts to Jesus and His family?
The answer is simple;
the wise men knew how important and precious Jesus would be to the world. They were
well aware of His great value to us and that is why they got Him very expensive
gifts. For them, where Jesus was laid or His family background did not form the
basis of their judgement but they looked at His greater value.
Today as you give or
receive that gift, look at how much that person means to you and you will able
to get the right gift or appreciate what you receive.
