Women Empowerment: The Right Kind

When I write about women empowerment people accuse me of being a feminist. Before we start pointing fingers let me set the record straight. Women
have been oppressed for centuries and now we can stand up for our rights thanks to women empowerment. Secondly, there is a great misconception about women empowerment by both men and women.

So what is women empowerment? One would ask. Women's empowerment has five components:  women's sense of self-worth; their right to have and to determine choices; their right to have access to opportunities and resources; their right to have the power to control their own lives, both within and outside the home; and their ability to influence the direction of social change to create a more just social and economic order, nationally and internationally.

Spiritual empowerment may not be part of the definition but I think it is important and so does The Ambassadors Nairobi Kenya under the Reedemed Christian Church of God. For this purpose they tend to organize annual women’s conference.

This year’s conference was at the Hilton Hotel; it started on 28th March to 30th March 2014. The conference had a very powerful theme of Woman! No More Limitations.

The event organizers went beyond their comfort zone to get international speakers to bring the message home. The guest speakers were Pastor (Mrs) Debola Atoyebi from Nigeria and Prophetess Francina Norman from USA. The praise and worship mood was set by The Ambassadors’ Praise Bearers and Flo Ambayo.

This was a life changing conference, if you missed out make sure you attend the next one come 2015. I would like to extend my gratitude to the organizers of this conference. You have reminded women the importance of spiritual empowerment.
