Why You Should Not Migrate to Nairobi

Nairobi, the City we grew up desiring to live in, is not so amazing after all. Yes we have a National park within the city, a place where you can feed
giraffes, beautiful parks(Uhuru park, Uhuru gardens), UN headquarters, top schools and even a superhighway among other things; a closer look will make you love your village even more.

I am not a sadist but a realist. If you want to live in Nairobi, you have to be ready to put up with endless traffic every single day expect during Christmas holidays. If you live on Langata road, Jogoo road, Thika road, Mombasa road, Ngong road you name it. Traffic is normally a nightmare during the rush hours. The traffic is always so kind to bring along a hike in the bus fare without discriminating the route.

Secondly,  no large scale farming goes on in Nairobi and as a result the fruits and vegetables are more expensive than in other towns. However, there are those who have turned their backyards into small vegetable farms. Life is simply expensive in Nairobi since you have to purchase everything you need. For some they even purchase water which should be a basic commodity.

Nairobi is not the employment hub as many believe. A good percentage of people spend their time looking for jobs without any success. Areas around Hilton and Uhuru park are often a resting place for those tarmacking. If I were you, I will not be so quick to judge con men, pick pockets and even fake beggars.

We all migrate to Nairobi in search of greener pastures only to land into a job desert.  Our ego and pride has reduced us to living in horrible conditions while we have a beautiful home in our ancestral land.

There is no need for you to suffer so as to remain a hero. If you do not become successful in Nairobi may be "Shagz" (up country) is the place for you. Farming, business or small companies could make you the happiest person. May be devolution will make people proud of living and working in their rural areas.
